https://jja.yu.edu.jo/index.php/jja/article/view/539

Ceramic art is characterized by continual experimentation and practice across diverse techniques sought by artists in their pursuit of new visual surfaces and expressive formal dimensions. These efforts aim to achieve varied aesthetic and performative effects that influence the ceramic form, whether it is a vessel, a mural, or a sculptural ceramic, in harmony with the artist’s evolving philosophy, creative thought, and structural compositions. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the role of techniques in developing methods of drawing and painting on ceramic surfaces, exploring the aesthetic and expressive possibilities these techniques offer to contemporary visual artists. It also seeks to highlight the conceptual transformations that have occurred in the visual arts through these techniques. The researcher used a descriptive-analytical method, appropriate to the nature of the study, to describe and analyze ceramic works in terms of the connotations of the artworks, its references, contents, and underlying philosophy. The study concludes with several findings, the most significant of which is the transformation in the concept of the surface on which drawing and painting take place; they are no longer confined to walls, canvases, or paper. Drawing and painting have extended beyond traditional vessels to include contemporary sculptural ceramic works.
Yacoub Hussien Al-Atoom

https://jja.yu.edu.jo/index.php/jja/article/view/554

This study analyzes the practices of sports graphic design in Saudi stadiums and their role in shaping a contemporary national visual identity. It explores how visual symbols, particularly those used in fan tifos and sportswear designs, are employed to enhance the audience's sense of national belonging. The study aims to compare these visual practices within the Saudi context to their regional and global counterparts, focusing on their alignment with the cultural and political context of Saudi Vision 2030. It examines how contemporary graphic design practices in Saudi stadiums contribute to shaping a national visual identity that conveys belonging and reinforces cultural discourse amid the social and political transformations underway in the Kingdom. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology and applies three integrative analytical models to interpret visual messages and their symbolic meanings: Panofsky’s iconological method, Roland Barthes’ semiotic model, and Kress and van Leeuwen’s visual grammar framework. A total of 21 visual samples were analyzed, including official sports logos, tifos from Saudi Arab, international stadiums, and sportswear designs. The study concludes that sports graphic design makes a significant contribution to constructing a cohesive mental image of national identity through the use of cultural and historical symbols. It also shows that the public engages with these visuals as collective expressions of loyalty, revealing the political and cultural dimensions that shape these designs within the framework of Vision 2030, endowing them with a holistic character that extends beyond mere aesthetics. The recommendations emphasize the importance of integrating and documenting cultural symbols in sports practices, and developing academic programs focused on sports design
Lama Abdulrahman Al-Harkan

https://jja.yu.edu.jo/index.php/jja/article/view/578

The use and intellectual–visual integration of heritage within the structure of theatrical creativity constitute a cultural foundation capable of generating decolonial aesthetics that reinforce values of belonging and identity while keeping pace with intellectual, social, and political transformations. This study stems from a central question: how can theatrical performance employ local heritage to liberate it from its static, museum-like character and reformulate it within a contemporary artistic vision? The play Letters of Freedom, written by Ezzeddine Madani and directed by Hafez Khalifa, was selected as an applied model to examine the artist’s balance between adhering to heritage as it is and reshaping it to serve his artistic discourse. The study uses a descriptive–analytical method to interpret the performance in relation to aesthetic and theoretical approaches. It concludes that the use of heritage in this context enables theater to produce renewed expressive forms that contribute to consolidating an authentic cultural identity while opening the way for decolonial theatrical aesthetics that transcend local frameworks toward broader human and global horizons.
Imen Samet Arous

https://jja.yu.edu.jo/index.php/jja/article/view/580

This research aims to address the lack of studies linking the morphology of metallic textures with digital technologies (CAD /CAM) to employ Saudi Sadu ornaments in creating contemporary jewelry. The study uses a descriptive method to analyze the morphology of metallic textures and the decorative patterns of Sadu, alongside an applied method to design jewelry models using modern digital technologies. A series of digital models were created, and some were executed in 21-karat gold using (CAD/CAM) technology, demonstrating the potential of using the morphological features of metallic textures to develop contemporary designs that embody Saudi cultural identity. The results reveal that integrating Sadu ornaments with (CAD/CAM) technologies helps create intricate and diverse jewelry designs characterized by high aesthetic and technical value. The researcher recommends using local heritage in jewelry design and developing training programs to develop designers’ digital design skills, thereby enhancing national identity and meeting the needs of the local market.
Ghada Ghazi Taj Jan

https://jja.yu.edu.jo/index.php/jja/article/view/582

The concept of dialectics in conjunction with the evolution of reception theory, and the openness of theatrical art to contemporary technological changes is one of the most important reasons for the development of intellectual and aesthetic visions of theatrical performance. Examining the dialectical relationship between the director and the scenographer in terms of role, significance, and priority represents an important contribution to clarifying the ambiguities and overlaps between them, and to establishing a form of critical thinking grounded in dialogue and reasoning rather than personal taste or rivalry. The significance of this study lies in its cognitive and scientific contribution to the field of theatrical arts by defining the functional and aesthetic relationship between directing and scenography. To achieve this, the researcher used the descriptive–analytical method to describe and analyze the relationship between the director and the scenographer, aiming to answer the research question and attain precise scientific results. The study is structured around discussions of the concept of dialectics in theatrical art, the historical development of directing and scenography, the dialectical relationship between them, their shared foundations and references, and finally, a projection of the future vision for this critical collaboration.
Omar Mohammed Naqrash

https://jja.yu.edu.jo/index.php/jja/article/view/561

The circular economy (CE) offers a forward-looking framework for sustainable furniture design, aiming to reduce waste and enhance resource utilization throughout a product’s lifecycle. This study investigates how CE principles—such as material reuse, modular construction, and long-term durability—can be effectively embedded in modern furniture systems. A mixed-methods approach is adopted, integrating expert interviews with quantitative findings from Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) applied to selected furniture models. Environmental metrics, including carbon emissions, resource consumption, and end-of-life recyclability, are examined to assess performance. Results indicate that modular configurations, renewable materials, and reverse logistics mechanisms can significantly mitigate environmental impact. The research provides practical guidance for designers and manufacturers seeking to develop circular furniture solutions for residential and commercial interiors.
Gidaa Ali Alamry
