Abstract

Abstract

The study aimed to follow the historical development of the new art forms in the Arabic world (Video Art), and to study the structural compositions of the new art forms and their relations to social issues, and to identify the intellectual features. It attempts to achieve these goals by answering three questions:

  1. What are the special features of the new art forms in the contemporary Arab art and how able are they to develop in their realistic context?
  2. What are the reasons that caused the Arab artist to be preoccupied with the concept of the art work instead of its structure?
  3. And What are the distinctive intellectual and philosophical features of the "Video Art" as a new art form in the contemporary Arab art?

The researchers follow the Descriptive analytical methodology in studying the samples, and the historical index in the theoretical section. This study reaches some significant conclusions which are:

The new art forms in the contemporary Arab world evolved to follow the progress of the world at the beginning of the 20th century after the spreading of media and technology. Mona Hatoum was responsible for the development of this art form after 1975, but the actual beginning was from" the Generation of War" in Lebanon.

The new art forms in Arab art have acquired special characteristics that distinguish them from others, due to their concern with the cultural mixture and political and social issues in the Arab world.

The orientation of the Arab artists in their works of art in the Video Art as a contemporary Arab art was mainly towards the conceptualization of artistic discourse and, when necessary, towards expressing important and urgent issues in the Arab world.
