Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impact of war and armed conflicts, witnessed by some Arab countries since the beginning of the 21st century, on contemporary Arab painting. The researchers used the descriptive analytical method in answering the questions of the study, through displaying a sample of paintings produced by a number of contemporary Arab painters in several Arab countries.

The results of the study showed that the most prominent feature in the works of Arab painters dealing with the theme of war and armed conflicts was the focus on the human suffering due to wars and armed conflicts, with the dominance of the realistic painting trend compared to the other artistic trends, such as the abstraction, and other trends. The results showed also the presence of an indirect impact of war on the works of some contemporary Arab painters, through the techniques and artistic styles used in their artworks.
