Abstract

Abstract

The study analyzes the dialectic of artistic identity between heritage and contemporary in Egyptian art, by searching for the ingredients that confirm the validity of this dialectic, and the extent of its negative or positive impact on artistic creativity in the 20th century.

The art scene in Egypt developed from multiple visual impressions, and the emergence of artistic creations bearing a different vison of the concept of identity

In the last three decades of the twentieth century, which resulted in new approaches to art in the second decade of the 21st

What prompted theorists, researchers, and critics to study and analyze this dialectic to determine its impact on the Egyptian artistic product, and the extent to which a change occurred in the artistic and creative style and behavior, including the thought contained in this dialectic, and its follow-up of fears, obsessions, limits of identity and alienation in the collective mind of Egyptian artists or a sector of them.

Is adhering to traditional practices and reproducing motifs and some traditional elements and symbols a clinging to identity? Do some modernist practices express identity or distance themselves from it?
