Sustaining the aesthetic values of traditional costumes' decorative and accessories in Fifa’s province using digital technologies for decorating fabrics

Abstract
This study considers taking advantage of the aesthetic values of traditional costumes’ decorations found in the province of Fifa, Saudi Arabia, which can be employed in fabrics design using digital printing and automatic embroidery.
Moreover, this research aims to contribute to the revival of traditional heritage in a contemporary manner through designing a set of appropriate decorations for fabrics inspired by Fifa’s aesthetic values. These aims target the sustainability of aesthetic values using digital means.
The research methodology followed the analytical, descriptive, and applied approaches. The research outcomes include 17 design samples that were executed using digital design, printing, and embroidery technologies. The evaluation of the sustainability of this aesthetics was done using a questionnaire with 28 participants specialized in fabric and textile.
The questionnaire data were statistically analyzed to calculate the average and standard deviation in achieved sustainability scores. The research results show that Fifa’s costumes were characterized by triangle and rhombus geometric motifs, strong colors, and the use of ornaments. Through these aesthetic values, designs for decorative units were created on samples of fabrics. Moreover, the research outcomes indicate with high scores of averages the possibility of achieving sustainability for the aesthetic values of traditional costumes’ decorations found in the province of Fifa. Also, the use of digital technologies in design, printing, and embroidery can help in spreading and reviving the cultural heritage found in traditional costumes’ decorations and ornaments in high quality and timely execution manner.
