Abstract

Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the beginnings of the Saudi sculpture art through the participation of the artists during the regular exhibitions held by the General Presidency for Youth Welfare. The study covers the participation from the first exhibition in 1976, until the last "XVI exhibition" in 2002. In addition, the study helps in identifying the topics most covered and the raw materials used most in the formation of sculptures whether fully embodied or prominent, or recessed. The study at hand is a descriptive study. It covers a sample of 56 artists and 109 sculptural works. The results showed that the topics most addressed by the artists in their production were abstraction, folklore, Islamic heritage, calligraphy, humanitarian themes. On the other hand, the most used raw materials in the study sample were stone, marble, wood, ceramic, metal, and polyester / polymers.
