The Naming of the Maqamat Denominations and Their Implications in Arabic Music and the Alternatives to These Names

The aim of this research was to identify the semantic meaning of naming the maqamat in Arabic music based on the Jins, and to find alternatives to these names tailored to suit Arabic music. The researcher followed the analytical descriptive method to achieve his research objectives. The researcher reviewed the concepts of scale and maqama, and the meaning of each of these names, and then explained the concept of musical Jins, and the presentation of many of the Arabic maqamat, explaining the Jins of their constituents, and the resulting Maqamat when changing the order of these ajnas. He suggested new names for Arabic musical magamat replacing the Non-Arabic names, where the maqama is called by the Jins of origin and the Jins of the branch.
