Abstract

Abstract

Since ancient times Arabs only knew the singing of the poems that grew in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula. Then they created the Andalusia "Muwashahat" and "Al-zajal" to escape the monotongus melodic line in the singing of the poem and that has become a pillar model, with lyrical essence and richness, of the arab musical heritage.

This paper studies a type of "Zajal"   namely "Ya Ghzayel". In this research the author looked into the poetic structure and musical construction of that particular type of poem. The study examines the rhythm and melodies and methods treating them in this popular musical style. It also tries to identify its users in the Arab world, and the similarities and differences in the performance between the various users in Bilad al-Sham (Greater Syria).
