Abstract

Abstract

Folk-songs are owing of the folkloric expression of old forms I it is strongly connected with all stages of the human’s life-cycle, it also reflects his traditions and habits in all of his social, national and religious occasions. The kuwaity folk-song is still needs studies, research and analysis, to discover its specialties. There are not enough studies in this field; there is need for more studies.

The author delt in this paper the function of the folk-song and the kuwaity song especially. The general researcher chooses 7 sorts of the kuwaity folk-songs I he analyzed them from the scientific side, according the result are as follows:

  • The Maqam (Mode): the songs used only some notes of the Maqam; mostly uses a tetra chord or a pentatonic series.
  • The Melodic Line: the melody usually follows a step wise direction, either up or down in a tetra chord. Large intervals or skips or rarely used.

Form: all songs are built in a repeated melody for the poems points in an antiphonal or responsorial manner
