Abstract

The study begins with a chronological review about the means used to display the art of music and the art of drama. It, then, deals with the stages that preceded and necessitated the presence of the "director" and the "conductor"

and the formation of these two terms that gained later on a large role in the development of music and drama and paved the way for the appearance of prominent figures in both fields as the best directors and conductors.

This is done in the aim of analyzing the differences between the explanatory visions of the Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini and the visions of the Russian conductor Serge Koussevitzky regarding the sample chosen by the

researcher, i.e. Brahms 4 symphony.

Another comparison is also made in this study between the German director Duke Saxe Mainingen and the Iraqi director Sami Abdul Hameed regarding the process of directing the sample chosen by the researcher, i.e. Hamlet
