Melodic and Instrumental Adaptation According to the Ulwila Method in Music Therapy

Abstract

The study aims to identify The Ulwila method in music therapy by adapting certain melodies from Arab folk music heritage and melodic percussion instruments according to the Ulwila approach in music therapy. The study employs a descriptive-analytical method, gathering data using sources, references, and illustrative examples. The study sample consists of the musical models which were chosen intentionally.

The study concludes that the Ulwila method is a specialized method of music therapy that relies on the color system in musical reading and includes specific designations of rhythmic notes, rests, shapes, and symbols related to musical concepts and notation. Some Arab folk music melodies and melodic percussion instruments can be adapted according to the Ulwila approach in music therapy, thereby promoting the method.

The study recommends conducting further research to shed light on the Ulwila approach in music therapy from different perspectives and considering the use of this approach in music eduction and therapy for individuals with learning difficulties, according to the principle of adaptation and integrating it with the Ulwila method.
