Character alienation in the Jordanian Theatrical Text: Selected Samples

This research paper aims to identify the idea of character alienation in the Jordanian theatrical texts and the mechanisms used by writers. The concept of character alienation is widely explored in theater, manifesting in various forms and contexts, including psychological, spatial, and social alienation. The significance of this research lies in its attempt to identify and investigate the alienation of character in the Jordanian theatrical texts. The study focuses on the period between 1985 and 2016, a phase marked by significant events and political and social changes in the Arab world. The two selected samples are the play “It Was and Still Is” by Hashem Gharaibeh (1985) and the play “Lilac of Doha” by Ghannam Ghannam in 2016. The researcher adopted a descriptive analytical approach in this study. This study can benefit those working in the field of theater as well as academic institutions such as faculties of Arts and Fine Arts.
