Abstract
In his orchestral writing, Yousef Khasho depended on utilizing his melodic ideas in serving the drama; he wrote many symphonies and symphonic poems that depended on a narrative. He also used the depiction style in narrating dramatic story events that require that. He combined the narrative and depiction styles in the formulation of his symphonic works. Both styles have creative forms that require connecting the music to drama in such a manner as to achieve clear deliverance to the recipient.
This research paper is an attempt at answering the question, "How are the musical ideas linked to the dramatic ideas in Khasho’s orchestral writingss". The study's importance derives from the detailed analysis of the research sample in terms of maqam, homophonic fabric, polyphonic fabric and instrumental coloring, which are all elements related to how music is associated with drama. This makes it beneficial for the composition specialists and researchers in general.
