Abstract

This research aims at studying clay shaping as an alternative formative and descriptive ores for the Palestinian artist Sulieman Mansour. Using untraditional oras for shaping is considered a contemporary trend in visual arts, through which the artist aims to define his identity and loyalty, or to express his opinion on local or environmental subjects using ores derived from those subjects.

The research concluded with some results such as the success of using clay as a technical substitute in the artist’s work through adapting its qualities to serve the subject and the technique, in addition to its aesthetic value. Clay had a very prominent effect in showing the intellectual and national values through clay references in the collective Palestinian culture. Artistic ways and mechanisms of production for the artistic work varied through the coupling of the concept of outstanding painting and the modern artwork to serve the aesthetic and intellectual message.
