The Problems and Difficulties Facing Art Teachers at Jerash Governorate

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the status of  art education, and to identify the problems and difficulties facing art teachers at Jerash Governorate. Population of the study consisted of all male and female art education teachers totaling (38) art teachers at Jerash governorate schools. Sample of the study consisted of (31) male and female art education teachers at Jerash Governorate schools in the school year 2012\2013. To collect data from the sample, the researcher developed an ( 81)- item questionnaire distributed on the following domains: family and society perception, curriculum, school administra-tion and school subject, teachers, activities, planning, teaching strategies, instructional aides, evaluation, teacher, student and educational supervision. Validity and reliability were established for the questionnaire.

Results of the study indicated that the problems and difficulties faced by art education teachers were as follows: curriculum, evaluation, school administra-tion and other school subjects teachers, instructional aides, teacher, teaching strategies, activities, students, educational supervision, family and society perception, planning, respectively. Results of the study found no statistical significant differences on the total instrument due to gender, qualification level and experience. The study recommended the need for making use of advanced countries` experiences to develop art education curricula to keep abreast with the latest developments and to connect them with students' experiences, to make the art education subject as one of the passing and failing school subject and to conduct future research addressing the problems and difficulties facing art educa-tion teachers, identify their causes and work on solving them to achieve the desired educational objectives
