Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the history of polyphonic group singing in Jordan, and to shed light on the emergence of some Jordanian bands and choirs, the stages of their development, and the institutions supporting them.

This study concluded that this form of singing was known in the churches, but it was not present in the local musical culture. However, the political circumstances surrounding Jordan, and the missionaries, have contributed to the emergence and development of multi-voice ensembles and choirs. The study also showed that the local musical environment lacks a single official body that unifies these choirs, and organize their work, and ensure the exchange of expertise between them.
