Abstract
The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the use of art therapy to improve the performance of the visually impaired persons within the internal architectural environment. The use of art in therapy through the development of sensory perception does not emphasize or focus on the appearance of creative art; rather, it emphasizes and focuses on the foresight which the individual acquires through art therapy.
This study tries to accomplish its goals by raising a set of questions: How has the designer employed the elements of interior space to improve the performance of the visually impaired? What are the materials that the designer relied on to formulate a mechanism to produce furniture that helps in developing the senses of the blind and his perception within interior space?
After analyzing a set of models, the research reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which are: The blind's need for visual perception of the space caused the interior designer to use multiple sensory stimuli in designing the interior space with its contents. The designer also opted for designing functional furniture rather than aesthetically oriented furniture. As one of the multiple art fields, Interior design has helped in treating many environmental and social problems through the use of art to create an internal environment that helps the blind by stimulating sensory stimuli support.
